Project Description

TPE Consulting Engineers have extensive experience in the design and construction in the specialist area of distribution centres for multiple clients.  TPE undertook the refurbishment of the existing Tesco Ireland distribution centre at Apollo Road in Belfast which involved the reconfiguration of the building layout to optimise usage, a new frozen chamber, 3 no. dock leveller pods and new access ramps both internally and externally.

All new structure was founded on pile foundations due to the compressible nature of the existing ground.  The construction of the new free movement area involved the removal of a number of internal cold rooms and individual compartmental walls. The existing suspended precast floor was in very poor repair and following the removal of the existing compartmental walls and cold rooms a new pumped screed was poured to create a new uniform and level surface finish with improved structural performance.

The refurbished distribution centre has doubled the capacity of the original building providing a pivotal hub to Tesco distribution in Northern Ireland.
