This project consisted of the expansion and enhancement of the existing medical care facilities at the hospital through the alternation of the existing hospital building and the construction of an adjacent new day hospital facility. This new day hospital houses an endoscopy facility, four new operating theatres, a new CSSD (Central Sterilising Services Department) and full radiological diagnostic facilities. It has added approximately 4,200m2 of floor space to the hospital, which has doubled surgical capacity and provided 30 additional beds overall. Other elements of the new development include a new chapel building, a stand alone three-storey Consultant Clinic containing 19 consultant suites, and a new landscaping scheme incorporating and the upgrading and extension of existing set-down and car parking facilities and pedestrian routes.

The existing hospital remained fully operational for the duration of the project, which was completed in April 2006.
