Project Description

Clongowes Wood College is a private secondary school for boys, located in County Kildare, Ireland.  Founded in 1814, it is one of Ireland's oldest schools and is also a boarding school for boys from all over the world.  The development encompasses a new Energy Centre, Sports Centre, and Science Arts & Technology (SATS) Building with interconnection to the existing buildings and associated external works on campus. The development allows the college to take a more holistic approach to energy generation and usage with full control centralised in one location. 

TPE Consulting Engineers Services

The Energy Centre Building houses Biomass Boilers, CHP Unit, Gas Fired Boilers and an Electrical Substation / Switchroom. From this Energy Centre a campus-wide district heating system is designed to serve the new sports centre and SATS Building, whilst also connecting into the existing campus buildings. This allows the client to take advantage of the benefits of biomass fuel usage and on site generation of electricity.

The Sports Centre contains a swimming pool, changing areas, sports hall and staff office / training areas. The Science and Technology Building houses science laboratories, classrooms and technology rooms.  They are both served by a rainwater harvesting system and were also designed to maximise the use of natural ventilation were possible, in addition to system selections based on energy efficiency in all areas of the development.
